TV News Presenter, BJTC accredited Journalist

Hello, I’m Tom Philpot.

I’m a BJTC-accredited journalist with a Master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from City University, London. With a strong foundation in newsroom practices and multimedia storytelling, I’ve developed a deep understanding of international news dynamics and media ethics.

Currently, I am working as a news presenter at AsiaOneNews in Karachi, where I anchor live TV bulletins and report on key regional and global developments. My work focuses on delivering accurate, timely, and engaging news coverage for diverse audiences across platforms. I joined the team in early July 2025, to help them test and set up their news news channel prior to launch.  AsiaOneNews is Pakistan’s first-ever English language news channel, it aims to connect with global audiences and share news from a regional point of view.

It promises a fresh perspective on events and issues shaping Asia and beyond. AsiaONE’s mission is to present stories in a way that resonates with international viewers. Being involved with the team and presenting the news on the daily basis for this new channel is extremely rewarding and exciting for me.

From in-depth interviews to breaking news, I aim to bring clarity and and credibility to every story I tell.

Celebrating 6 months at AsiaOne

As my six-month anniversary with AsiaOne.News approaches, it feels like the right moment to reflect on what has been a truly remarkable adventure in Karachi, Pakistan.

I’m incredibly proud to have been part of the successful launch of Asia One News. When I arrived in July, the studio quite literally didn’t exist, yet within weeks, we were live. Seeing a channel built from the ground up, and learning first-hand what it takes to launch a 24/7 global news operation, has been an invaluable experience made possible by an outstanding team.

Professionally, the past six months have been incredibly rewarding. I’ve had the privilege of covering major global stories including the Gaza war, the Pakistan-Afghan Taliban ceasefire talks, the Sudanese civil war, and the Bondi Beach attack. I’ve anchored live coverage while speaking to freelance journalists across the world-  from Gaza City and Tel Aviv to Port Sudan, Tehran, the US, Russia and Europe. I have also provided live commentary on major events such as Trump’s UN General Assembly address and developments following the Islamabad blast in November 2025.

Anchoring the daily news has challenged me in the best way, helping me grow rapidly as a broadcaster. The sheer quantity of screen time I have amassed has allowed me to learn and develop drastically in a short space of time. I’m also grateful that reports published across our social platforms have reached millions of viewers, with encouraging feedback from audiences worldwide on my presenting style.

One recent standout story for me was the US capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. Covering the story live, interviewing journalists from Caracas, New York, Mexico City, Brussels, and London, and reporting on Maduro’s first US court appearance was a career highlight. Huge thanks to the Asia One team for consistently raising the bar and helping me develop my interview skills by lining up such strong guests.

In November, I also began hosting ‘Perspectiva’, my own interview show on Asia One. With the support of an excellent team – Unzila Rasheed Sheikh, Baber Ayaz, and Syed Muhammad Muddassir –  we’ve produced 58 episodes covering topics such as Mamdani’s historic win, the conviction of Sheikh Hasina, US military action in Nigeria, and the Ukraine-Russia peace talks. I’m extremely grateful for the trust placed in me to lead this programme from my director Naveed Qamar .

You can catch up on the episodes here: Perspectiva YouTube playlist.

The past six months have been intense, challenging, but without doubt the most rewarding of my career so far. I’m excited for what comes next. You can follow my progress on my Instagram: @tomphilpot.journalist.
